I teach various levels of math from basic math through algebra to adults at Portland Adult Education. My student's ages range from 17 to 70 with a majority of my students 20 to 30 years old. We have a huge immigrant population from all over the world. Some have very little math education to others who have degrees in mathematics from their country. What I hope to get out of this book group is more knowledge about the Common Core and how to implement the changes into my classroom. The feds have yet to decide how adult education fits into the Common Core but the new GED 2014 is using Common Core as the focus as it changes the test. I really have no fears other than being able to keep up with the discussion posts. I am looking forward to hearing from others and am so glad that ATOMIM has offered this forum.
