Opportunity to Participate in SBAC Pilot

21 Nov 2012 3:38 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)
The following information comes from Dan Hupp, MDOE Director of Standards and Assessment:

Maine is a founding member and governing state within the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. SBAC is currently designing tests that will measure the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematicsundefinedstandards that were adopted by Maine DOE last year. Along with the other 24 states that comprise the consortium, Maine will be formally transitioning its federal accountability assessment program to SBAC in the 2014-15 school year for grades 3 -11.

To ensure that all schools, educators and students across Maine have ample opportunities to learn about and participate in SBAC activities, a series of optional experiences have been (and will continue to be) created. One such opportunity, that of taking part in a pilot testing program, is explained below. If you and your school would like to participate in this activity, please follow the directions provided in the attached flyer. As other SBAC opportunities become available, the Department will announce their development widely.

The recently redesigned SBAC website, www.smarterbalanced.org, contains a host of information regarding the partnership and has been engineered to be very user-friendly. For those visiting the site for the first time, you may want to visit the “Resources & Events” tab and click the FAQ section.
