2005 Recipient: David Galli

ATOMIM salutes David Galli as the 2005 Jacqueline Mitchell Mathematics Educator Award recipient for his outstanding contributions to mathematics in the State of Maine. David is currently a 6th grade mathematics and science teacher at York Middle School.

Mr. Galli received his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Southern Maine. In addition to teaching, David has been a mathematics consultant and a specialist with the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance. He has also served on the ATOMIM Board.

David's leadership roles have been varied and many. He was instrumental in starting the Southern Maine Mathematics Fair, devoting many hours over many years running the fair. Each summer he runs the Summer Institute in York and, over the years, has continued to be a mathematics workshop leader for teachers all over the state. His involvement with education beyond the classroom currently includes serving as Chairman of the Saco School Board. He has also served as Head Finish Judge in the high school indoor winter track meet at the Expo.

David's administrator said that she could not do the mathematics program without him, adding that he continually challenges the students. Throughout all of his teaching years, he has supported his mathematics colleagues, keeping up-to-date with current mathematics programs and issues, NCTM recommendations, and Maine's Learning Results. He has trained many mathematics teachers and is highly regarded throughout the state.

We honor David Galli for all his work in mathematics and mathematics education by presenting him with the 2005 Jacqueline Mitchell Mathematics Educator Award.
