2006 Recipient: Cynthia Hillman-Forbush

ATOMIM Salutes Cynthia Hillman-Forbush as the 2006 Jacqueline Mitchell Mathematics Educator Award recipient for her outstanding contributions to mathematics in the State of Maine.

Ms Hillman-Forbush received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine Presque Isle and a graduate degree from the University of Maine at Orono. She also has a Certificate of Advanced Studies.

In 1994, she was a State Awardee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching in secondary mathematics.

She is a member of NCTM, NCSM, ATMNE, and ATOMIM. She has served on the ATOMIM Board and is President-Elect of ATOMIM.

Cynthia currently provides math consulting to school districts in Maine in addition to mathematics workshops in the US and internationally. Teachers who have attended her workshops say the following: I wish I had been to her workshop earlier as she taught me SO much. Wow - Cynthia is wonderful! Cynthia makes math fun while you learn so much.

Her former positions include Special Education Teacher at Houlton Elementary School and Junior High Math Teacher.

We honor Cynthia Hillman-Forbush for all her work in mathematics and mathematics education by presenting her with the 2006 Jacqualine Mitchell Mathematics Educator Award.
